Spousal Sponsorship
The spousal sponsorship program is part of the Family class immigration wherein a Canadian Citizen or Permanent resident may sponsor a spouse or common-law partner for Canadian Permanent residency. Both sponsor and sponsored must be able to prove their relationship and should be under one of the three categories;
Spouse
Sponsor and sponsored person are legally married and have a valid legal document to support their claim.
Common Law Partner
Both parties should have lived together continuously for at least 1 year.
Conjugal Partner
Is a foreign national residing outside Canada who is in a conjugal relationship with the sponsor for at least 1 year.
AM I ELIGIBLE TO SPONSOR MY SPOUSE?
Sponsor spouse must first determine the eligibility to sponsor someone in the spousal sponsorship category.
Necessary Requirements:
  • Sponsor is a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Sponsor is at least 18 years of age.
  • Sponsor must sign a 3-year sponsorship agreement with the Canadian Government to financially support the spouse or partner.
  • Sponsor cannot be in receipt of social assistance unless you are receiving assistance for disability reasons.
  • Must not have a removal order against you or in a process for revocation.
  • Sponsor’s permanent resident status must not be under review for residency obligation.
  • Sponsor must not have any serious criminal charges that are pending Which is punishable by a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years.
